Overview
The VR-A4 is an alternating-pressure replacement mattress for patients at very high risk of pressure ulcers, and for patients who already have one. Twenty cells inflate and deflate in two sets on a ten-minute cycle, over a 50 mm foam safety base that supports the patient if power is lost.
On a VR-7 or VR-7 XW, the mattress is controlled from the bed’s footboard panel, and its alarms appear there. On other beds the pump hangs on the footboard and is used on its own.
Alternating and static modes
A ten-minute alternating cycle, a static mode for comfort or procedures, and a firm mode for transfers and nursing care.
Lateral rotation
Side cells turn the patient up to 20° each way on a programmed schedule, from the VR-7 panel only.
CPR valve
The red CPR valve at the head end deflates the mattress in under 15 seconds.
Transport mode
The mattress seals itself for up to 12 hours when the pump is disconnected.

Service
The VR-A4 pump needs planned maintenance every 12 months, including an electrical safety test and a check of each alarm. Covers should be inspected at every cleaning for tears, stains that will not clean and fluid under the cover. A mattress whose foam or cells are stained must be taken out of use.
Replacement covers, cells and pumps are on the spare parts page. For cleaning, see decontamination.
VR-A4 is manufactured by Van Roon Medische Techniek B.V., Leiden, the Netherlands, and supplied in the United Kingdom and Ireland by Van Roon Medical UK Ltd. Available in the UK and Ireland since 2022. Always read the instructions for use before using the product.
